Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School

Apprendre à servir
(meaning “Learn to serve”)

The sword surrounded by a wreath of maple leaves in the centre of the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (CFLRS) crest symbolizes excellence in the profession of arms. To represent that CFLRS candidates come from all over the country, the wreath is composed of 12 maple leaves, one for each of the ten provinces and two territories (now three) that then constituted Canada.

The two torches around the crest are the symbol of learning and knowledge. The Crown represents service to the Sovereign, while the three maple leaves represent service to Canada as well as the three elements of the Canadian Armed Forces: the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force.
